Our Original Workwear: Creating long lasting products

We find the origins of manufacturing by makers and production areas and make proposals to modern consumers while passing them on. And we develop and sell products that will be long-life designs for the future.

Our original workwear is not too trendy that you can wear for a long time, regardless of age or gender.

The staff working at D&DEPARTMENT shared ideas about what kind of shirt they wanted as a uniform, and developed a functional and comfortable workwear.

Our original clothes are brimming with a playful spirit. For example, you can find two hidden loops sewn to the back of this shirt and the working‐out of details like the loops sewn with orange thread for making it easy to recognize from the outside. These loops are inspired by the idea for hanging light-weight tools.

Made-in-Japan Stand Shirt

A Standard Shirt for All Workers, Whether You’re Working at a Shop, Office, Kitchen, or Even in the Comfort of Your Living Room

The Stand Shirt's 100% cotton material uses broadcloth fabric with a 40-yarn count. Although categorized as general apparel among casual shirts, it has an opaque texture and is characterized by durability. Despite its soft and comfortable feel, it has a firm texture with a tendency to crease moderately. Can be worn throughout the year regardless of season, thanks to its ironless washed-out appearance. Forget about the material showing through when you're only wearing it. Also, the sleeve is designed to be just the right length so that it won't look too long. The cuffs have a narrow width for ease of folding. The sleeves won't unroll after folding them, allowing ease of desk work or physical labor.

A Sewing Method That Requires Advanced Technology: Double-Chain Stitch

The arm and armpit areas utilize a sewing method called "double-chain stitch" for elasticity that offers durability. A special knit whose texture increases in fineness and strength after every washing. You can enjoy its distinct texture that changes through years of use and adapts a 3D form associated with yarn puckering as you continue using it. Utilizes a sewing method that requires advanced technology that uses double chain stitches from the armpit area to the sleeves, including the arms, after sewing the shoulder parts together. The sewn area under the armpits is very sturdy and meets the demands of rugged work clothes. Highly-skilled workers are required to operate a double-chain stitch sewing machine. However, the factory and artisans continue to decrease as they age. Our original clothes are intricately manufactured in factories located in the Bishu area by highly experienced artisans who only exist in small numbers. To securely carry on technology under a production system without putting too much stress on workers, we place production orders with fixed production volume and period.

Made-in-Japan Back Pocket Shirt

A Fabric Called "Typewriter"

The 100% cotton Back Pocket Shirt is made from plain-woven 2-ply yarn with a 100-yarn count. It utilizes a fabric called "typewriter" that was originally developed for achieving a ribbon-like texture that absorbs ink used for typewriters. A durable fabric with bounce and resilience that has non-piling and high-quality texture can be achieved by tightly knitting high-grade thin yarn. Recommended to be used as a large everyday work uniform that can be worn over a shirt.
