d design travel HIROSHIMA EXHIBITION
at d47 MUSEUM
Nowadays, the individuality of each region is being lost in the urbanization of modern Japan. In this individuality, there is a long-established local way of life. To reaffirm its importance, we have published a travel guide for each of the 47 prefectures, called "d design travel. This exhibition celebrates the launch of the Hiroshima edition, the 34th prefecture.
Hideto Shindo (Editor-in-chief of d design travel) lightly thought to start his travels by visiting the Atomic Bomb Dome first, but gradually sensed that the "Hiroshima" imagined by us outsiders was beginning to have a slightly different nuance today.
Beyond the connotations of a tragic legacy and prayer for peace, the word "Hiroshima" now harbors the power to connect people, bind the islands of the vast Seto Inland Sea, and create a new future together.
At this exhibition site, you could enjoy the unique items of Hiroshima Prefecture, specially borrowed tools, daily necessities, and handicrafts that are actually used in the area.
Most of the items in this exhibition were found by the editor-in-chief during his research, and all of them have a history and development. The more you learn about them, the more interesting they become, and the longer they have been part of the fabric of Hiroshima Prefecture. We hope that through the exhibits, visitors will learn about the "designs" that exist and are unique to Hiroshima Prefecture.
We also hope that this exhibition and the Hiroshima issue will be an opportunity for you to get to know Hiroshima Prefecture, and indeed all of Japan, and to feel the importance of the "individuality of each location".
FUKUI BUSSAN MARKET, Showcasing Souvenirs
The "Hiroshima Bussan Market" is also held at the exhibition, showcasing souvenirs from Hiroshima Prefecture that the editors of "d design travel HIROSHIMA" have come across in their research and would like to recommend, as well as "Hiroshima-style" crafts selected by d47 MUSEUM.
It features about 200 items of Hiroshima Prefecture's proud craftsmanship, including Fukuyama denim products, indigo-dyed jeans and other clothing, and dinosaur figurines, as well as delicious souvenirs such as craft beer, citrus jams and sweets from the Seto Inland Sea, and so on. We hope you will enjoy this exhibition together with the book and the exhibition.
Fukui Teishoku, Fukui’s “Home Grown” Meal
at d47 SHOKUDO
d47 Shokudo chefs traveled around Hiroshima Prefecture. They have sampled local specialties and traditional dishes and interviewed local producers to develop set menus that are unique to the area.
The menu includes "Fried Nebuto" : a part of the Setonaikai's small fish cuisine culture, "Nigome": a Jodo Shinshu vegetarian dish of diced root vegetables, always including adzuki beans associated with Saint Shinran, and “Okonomiyaki" : a layered dish of thin batter, noodles, cabbage and egg. Hope you enjoy "Hiroshima Teishoku" at d47 SHOKUDO!!
