d design travel presents only those things that have truly impressed the reader from the perspective of "long-life design" after traveling to the area as if the editors lived there.

Live your best life in the shadows of San'in.
Shimane Prefecture has always been derided as the "boonie of the boonies," but that is no longer true. This might be misleading, but I'm really glad that Shimane is in the "shadows." It's precisely because of her insular nature that a unique history and culture have emerged, fostering a disposition and ethos unique to Shimane Prefecture.
(By Hideto Shindo / Editor-in-Chief)
One Note on the Cover : Niwatori ("Chicken") by Kenji Funaki (1927-2015)
Shimane Prefecture is known as a "place associated with mingei". Kenji Funaki of Funakigama Pottery, however, expressed through his works the idea of taking flight and transcending Shimane. His use of Kimachi-uwagusuri glaze, applied based on slipware techniques passed down directly by Bernard Leach during his time in Japan, results in works that can convey, through a single ceramic panel, the culture, traditions and features which pervade Mingei. These pieces are an integral part of the Shimane scenery I experienced through my two-month sojourn, and just like the Sekishu-gawawra tiles unique to the region which use the same Kimachi-uwagusuri for their coloring, Funaki's designs are something inseparable from Shimane design as a whole.

*The books are written in Japanese and English.
"Traveling long life design"
D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT, which works on the theme of "Long-Life Design", has selected the long-lasting "individuality" and "character" of each of the 47 prefectures from a design perspective and compiled them into a tourist guide called "d design travel".

"d design travel" presents only those things that have truly impressed the reader from the perspective of "long-life design" after traveling to the area as if the editors lived there. The "long-lasting things" and "local characteristics" that have taken root in each prefecture are selected and published as "d-mark reviews" in six categories, such as sights, restaurants, cafes, shops, hotels, and people.
"d design travel" is not an ordinary guidebook full of information, but a design travel series that introduces places that have a vitality and a message from the local area that will last even 10 years, confirmed by the sense of D&DEPARTMENT.
