Stainless Steel Kettle Matte designed by "Sori Yanagi"

This stainless steel kettle is made by craftsmen in Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, which is known for its high level of technology and quality that is recognized worldwide. It is manufactured through over 50 stages that include stamping, polishing, and welding. Even the spout itself consists of more than 10 stages, which requires a high level of skill.

The wide base provides good heat transfer so hot water boils quickly. It is also refined to prevent hot water from dripping out. The handle is designed so that you can pour without using excessive force on your fingers or wrists. The principle of leverage is used so that you don't have to add strength, but instead use your little finger to grip the concave surface at the back of the handle for easy pouring.

The kettle was developed through repeated meticulous testing that allowed for smooth "pouring" by hand, such as the initial creation of a 3D model. There is a story about how the mold was redesigned from scratch after Sori Yanagi judged that the balance of the knob was unacceptable, even after the mold was completed and a prototype was created. This kettle, first released by Sori Yanagi as a kitchen item, is now a long-selling product in the series.

True beauty is "Born," Not Created.

Sori Yanagi (1915 - 2011) has left the following words about designs.

True beauty is "born", not created.
Design cannot be achieved alone.
True design lies in a realm counter to trends.
Traditional style exists for the cause of creation.
Design without tradition and creation is inconceivable.

"Sori Yanagi's Creation" Begins with Making A Model Before Drawing Sketches or Diagrams

Sori Yanagi takes the user's perspective and adapts a design method where models are hand-created while coming up with ideas. It has designed many products that will enrich your life and can be used for a long time.

Born in 1915 in Tokyo as the eldest son of Soetsu Yanagi, the leader of mingei (folk craft). After graduating from the Department of Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts, he worked at Junzo Sakakura Architectural Office and later founded the Yanagi Design Institute in 1952. It aimed to create "beautiful forms to be used," which is characterized by creating diagrams after a model is created and a prototype of the product is used. It is responsible for designing various objects, including the flame holder and torch of the Tokyo Olympics, stadium seats, furniture, tableware, bicycles, bridges.
