Design has become "long-life".
This is the official book of "Right Design for 47 Prefectures" in d47 MUSEUM special exhibition. We have created a book that will serve as a textbook for "long-life design" by collecting the proper designs of the 47 prefectures.
There is a shift from consumption-oriented design to realistic design. In the postwar Japan, the national government took the lead in design. During the period of rapid economic growth, private companies took the lead in design. And, designers led the design during the bubble economy period (of Japan, 1986-1991). Design from 2000 to now is led by local consumers. The trend has changed from mass production, such as disposable products, to handicraft such as lifelong products that can be enjoyed over time. The meaning of "design" is changing, and we have collected and introduced long-life designs from each of Japan's 47 prefectures, which are unique to each region.
